On April 14 and 15, 2026, teams at Marnewaard in the Netherlands were not waiting for an actual flood to find out how emergency barriers worked.They built mobile flood barriers, tested them under practical conditions, evaluated the results, and took them apart again.


STOWA's final assessment concluded that realistic practice was essential because problems with instructions, safety, coordination, and execution only become visible when people actually work with the equipment.


1. A Barrier in Storage Is Only the Starting Point
