Most erosion repairs stall because they depend on materials that must be ordered, delivered, and left to set. 


A gabion mesh installation depends on neither. 


Six Steps to a Finished Line
1. Site preparation: Clear and grade the ground. Clear loose debris, collapsed soil and decaying vegetation. Shape the slope to an even surface; uniform contour is sufficient, no need for perfect smoothness.
2. Layout units: Place empty gabion baskets/mattresses on the prepared ground before tying. Align against slope toe and crest, not only construction drawings.
3. Connect panels: Join adjacent panels with lacing wire or spiral binders. Work outward from corners and keep seams tight to avoid bulging.
4. Fit internal diaphragms: Install cross-wires at required intervals for deep units to hold the front face straight after stone filling.
5. Layer filling: Place stones manually near panel surfaces for neat appearance; use machinery for core filling. Fill in three equal layers and fasten each layer to stop outward bowing.
6. Close & inspect: Fasten lids, check corners and connections, inspect the whole line for gaps or depressions.


The most common failure is not the wire—it is uneven filling. A basket filled faster on one side than the other will lean before the first rain arrives.


Stone Selection Rules That Matter
Use hard, durable stone larger than the mesh aperture—typically 1.5 to 2 times the opening size.
Avoid soft or flaky rock that breaks during placement or after freeze-thaw cycles.


When to Call It Done
Once the lid is tied, the work is effective immediately. There is no waiting period, no strength test to schedule, and no cure time to lose.
